The shooting occurred about 7 p.m. Saturday at the Oak Tree Inn in the 9000 block of Long Beach Boulevard, said Deputy Kelvin Moody of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Samuel Jimenez, 27, died at the scene, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter. His hometown was not known.

Detectives were looking for a woman, described as “a person of interest,” who was believed to have been with Jimenez at the motel.
