Commerce Crowns New Royal Court

There’s a new royal court in Commerce, where several young women competed last weekend for a chance to represent the city.

The 57th Annual Miss Commerce Pageant was held Saturday at the Commerce Hotel and Casino and screened live on the City Cable Channel 3.

Hundreds of people watched as 20-year old Wiley M. Canjura was crowned the newest Miss Commerce. Canjura currently attends East Los Angeles College and plans to become a registered nurse.

Desfile Inicia Temporada Navideña en Este de Los Ángeles

Después de siete años el Desfile Navideño Anual del Este de Los Ángeles regresó, una tradición que ha sido celebrada en el corazón de la ciudad desde hace 35 años. El evento tomó lugar el domingo, 27 de noviembre sobre el Bulevar de Whittier entre la Avenida Eastern y el Bulevar Goodrich, con la Supervisora Hilda Solís como Gran Mariscal.

Bandas de música locales desfilaron por las calles juntamente con reinas de belleza incluyendo a

Miss East Los Ángeles, Miss Commerce y Miss Cinco junto con sus cortes reales. Personalidades públicas originarias del área también participaron al igual que miembros de los consejos de las ciudades del Este como los de Commerce.

Siguiente al desfile, un festival de música tomó lugar con comida y premios exhibiendo talentos locales como el del Grupo Folklorico Colores De Mi Tierra entre otros.

Jazmin Diaz Crowned Miss Commerce 2016

Hundreds of people watched as 20-year old Jazmin Diaz was crowned as Miss Commerce 2016 during the 56th annual Miss Commerce Pageant Saturday at the Commerce Hotel and Casino.

Judges scored the 20 pageant contestants on beauty, poise, personality, grooming and their ability to effectively communicate, with Diaz coming on top.

“When I heard my name, I felt like I was dreaming; I was in disbelief,” said Diaz in a press release from the city. “When I was presented with my sash and crown I could hear my friends and family screaming for me and it was all so surreal.”

Joining Diaz on the Commerce Royal Court are Kiana M. Hernandez as Miss Dodgers, Melissa Avila-Briones as Miss Clippers, Carina Rodarte as Miss Fourth of July, Kassandra Carvajal as Miss Cinco de Mayo and Georgie Antioneett Rosales as Miss Friendship. Commerce resident Mark Jimenez was named the 2016 Young Man of the Year.

Diaz will receive a $2,500 scholarship from the Commerce Hotel and Casino, clothes and gift cards to Citadel stores, along with other items donated by local Commerce businesses.

Diaz is studying business at California State University, Dominguez Hills and volunteers at the LA Regional Center where she reads to kids with disabilities.

En su edición número 55, la señorita Miss Commerce 2015 Diana L. López se presentó el martes junto a su corte royal Miss Clippers Alyssa Rubio, Miss Dodgers/Miss Friendship Destanee Rose Cortes, Miss Cuatro de Julio Cecilia Campos y Miss Cinco de Mayo Dayana Ruiz Marquez ante el consejo de la Ciudad de Commerce. Las jóvenes agradecieron el poder representar por un año a la ciudad de Commerce y así mismo poder desenvolver sus aptitudes de comunicación y disciplina.

On Tuesday, the new elected Miss Commerce 2015 Diana L. Lopez appeared before the city council with her royal court Miss Clippers Alyssa Rubio, Miss Dodgers/Miss Friendship Destanee Rose Cortes, Miss Fourth of July Campos and Miss Cinco de Mayo Dayana Ruiz Marquez. The young women thanked the people for being able to represent the city of Commerce and at the same time be able to develop skills of communication and discipline.
