A day scheduled for Montebello residents to help clean a local park turned out to be a hands-on lesson for a group of young cub scouts on what it means to have community pride.

Cub scouts from St. Benedict Church Cub Scout Pack 0476, along with their pack leaders and parents, took part in last Saturday’s (Oct. 7, 2017) “Beautification Day” at Montebello City Park.

They learned what it means to have pride in your neighborhood and city, and the value of volunteering for the good of their community.

Spectators lined up their chairs on the sidewalk in front of Montebello City Park to get a good view of the parade that included appearances by local youth sports teams, dancers, bands, floats and local officials who waved to residents as they rode down the boulevard in classic cars.

The parade’s grand marshals were former Los Angeles Dodgers Fernando Valenzuela, Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell and Singer Erika Vidrio.
