Over 70 families attended the carnival-like, pre-Halloween event in the City Hall courtyard, said the City in a statement following the event, which included free food and refreshments, arts and crafts, trick-or-treating and other fun outdoor activities.

As part of the week’s Halloween festivities, the city also hosted visits from Vernon City Elementary School, allowing students to walk through a different Halloween mazes organized by the various city departments. Among the highlights was a “Candyland” themed maze that ran through the Vernon Police Department.

“It was thrilling to see over one hundred community members come together in Vernon to have fun and enjoy Halloween,” said Vernon Mayor Melissa Ybarra. “The first Spooktacular Halloween was a great success and we’re looking forward to next year!”

According to city officials, the festivities were in keeping with Vernon’s commitment to engage its small residential population in “meaningful” ways so they become more familiar with all the city has to offer.

“We will continue to host events such as these and seek opportunities to give back to our community,” said City Administrator Carlos Fandino.
